How to Verify Your Google Business Profile Without an Office

Google Business Profile verification for home-based fence contractors in the United States.

How a fence contractor who works from home verifies a Google Business Profile: the sign at the door, the route to film and why your address stays visible.

Most fence contractors don’t have a storefront. You work out of your truck, your garage or your home office. That’s fine. You can verify your Google Business Profile with your home address and do exactly what a business with an office does: prove your business name, your address and that you run the business, in one short video. The review usually comes back within a few days.

Verification is what puts your profile on Google Maps and in local search. Until it’s done, homeowners can’t find you there.

Google changes its menus from time to time. If a button below looks different on your screen, follow what Google shows you. The rules for the video stay the same.

Set the profile up first

  1. Use your real home address, the one on your license and your bills. No PO boxes, no mailbox services, no virtual offices
  2. Show the address on your profile. Don’t set it up as a service-area business with the address hidden. A profile with a real address shown outranks one with only service areas, every time
  3. Primary category: Fence contractor
  4. Use your real business name, exactly as it appears on your license. No city names or “fence installation” added to it

The three things you have to prove

1. The name

Hang a sign with your business name at the entrance to your home. A small plastic or acrylic sign, about 18 × 12 inches, with your business name and hours is enough. It has to match your profile name exactly, including LLC, Inc. and abbreviations. Paper or handwritten signs get rejected.

2. The address

Google ties the video to your address through what it sees: street signs, your house number, the numbers on the houses around you, nearby landmarks.

3. That you run the business

Show that this is where the business actually works from:

  • Take out your keys and unlock the front door
  • Walk to your garage or home office
  • Show your tools, equipment, materials, and your company truck or trailer with your name on it if you have one
  • Open your business paperwork or turn on the computer you run the business from, covering any bank, tax or ID numbers

Start the verification

  1. Click Get verified on your profile
  2. Pick a method Google offers: phone, text, email, video or postcard. Take an instant one if it’s there. Most contractors are asked for a video
  3. Enter the code you receive, or record the video

Codes clear in minutes. A video review takes up to 5 business days, a postcard up to 14 days. Don’t edit your business name or address while verification is pending. It cancels the request and restarts the process.

How to film the video

Plan the route once, then film it all in one continuous take. Move the camera slowly, especially on anything that can be read, so Google’s system has time to see it.

  1. The street. Start outside and slowly film the street sign and the house numbers around you.
  2. Your house. Show your house number, then the sign with your business name at the entrance.
  3. The keys. Show the keys in your hand, unlock the door and walk in.
  4. Where you work. Go to your garage or office and show your tools and equipment, and your branded truck or trailer if it’s there.
  5. Extra proof. Your business paperwork or the computer you run the business from.

Rules Google rejects videos for

Format

  • Record live through the profile on your phone (Get verified → Video). Pre-recorded uploads are rejected
  • One continuous clip: no cuts, no pauses, no editing
  • 30 seconds to about 2 minutes. Over 3 minutes risks rejection
  • GPS on, camera and microphone access allowed
  • Signed in with the Google account that manages the profile
  • Daylight, steady hands, stable connection. Don’t drop the phone toward the floor

Don’t film

  • People’s faces, including your family: wait until they’re out of the shot
  • Voices or conversations
  • Bank, tax or ID numbers: cover the sensitive parts of any document
  • Anything that doesn’t match your profile name or address

If it gets rejected

About half of first attempts get rejected, almost always because the sign doesn’t match the profile name or there’s no proof that you run the business. Video quality is rarely the problem.

Don’t upload the same video again. It will fail again. Fix the specific gap first, then record a fresh take with more proof: more equipment, your truck, extra documents, different angles.

FAQ

Can I verify my Google Business Profile with my home address?

Yes. Fence contractors who work from home can verify with their real home address. Keep that address shown on the profile: it ranks better than a hidden address with service areas.

Do I need a sign at my house to verify my fence business on Google?

It’s the simplest way to prove your business name. A small plastic or acrylic sign at the entrance, about 18 × 12 inches, with your name and hours, works. Paper or handwritten signs get rejected.

What should a fence contractor without an office show in the verification video?

The street and house numbers, the sign with your business name at the entrance, unlocking the door, then your garage or office with your tools, equipment and branded truck if you have one.

Should I hide my home address on Google Business Profile?

No. A profile with a real address shown always ranks better than a service-area profile with the address hidden. Show the address.

Can I use a PO box or a virtual office for my Google Business Profile?

No. Google doesn’t accept PO boxes, mailbox services or virtual offices. Use your real home address and show it on the profile.

Can I film my home verification video ahead of time and upload it later?

No. The video has to be recorded live through the profile on your phone, in one continuous take. Pre-recorded uploads are rejected.

How long does verification take without an office?

The same as with one: a code clears in minutes, a video review takes up to 5 business days and a postcard up to 14 days.

Can my family be in the Google verification video?

Keep them out of the shot. Faces, voices and conversations shouldn’t appear in the video.

Why was my home-based Google Business Profile verification rejected?

Usually because the sign didn’t match the profile name, there was no proof you run the business from there, or the video had cuts or people in it. Fix that point and record a fresh take.

Will my fence company rank on Google Maps without a storefront?

Yes. You don’t need a storefront, just a real address shown on the profile, even if it’s your home. From there, rankings come from your reviews, photos, posts, citations and website.
